- Biodiversity in quarries
Inverted floodplain: combining calcareous grasslands and ephemeral ponds
Promote biodiversity in quarry rehabilitation
Valerie Moos, Matthias Riedel, Felicia Seitz
Our aim is to create an innovative restoration concept for the abandoned parts of a limestone quarry in Central Europe. As example we have chosen the HeidelbergCement quarry "Burglengenfeld" near Regensburg. The central idea of the concept is to combine a state-of-the-art ecological foundation with high standards in landscape design. The objective for the study site is to replace uncoordinated small-sized restoration measures by a holistic restoration plan.
