Description: 

It is the largest clay quarry in Egypt and the oldest clay quarry for cement plant in Africa. The quarry is celebrating its 90 years of operating this year. The depth of the quarry is 70 m, it is below the sea level by 40 m. The total quarry area 1.5 m2. Currently the quarry is surrounding by many civil Military and cultivated areas. An important highway and railway run adjacent to the west and east sides of the quarry. The active area among the quarry represents 10% of its original area. The quarry is very close to the plant.

Habitat, flora & fauna description: 

There is no monitoring study surveying the type of the species, but some plant and vertebrate species could be reported. The Tamarix aphylla (L.) Karst and Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud, for the plant species. While, the Vulpes vulpes (Red fox), Canis, Rattusrattus (black rate) and Streptopeliasenegalensis (palm dove) for the vertebrate species.
