ALGAE+ART=ALGART (EN)
We're getting ready for the Open Day at the Institute of Botany, and we've come up with an unusual exhibit to surprise our guests. As part of the #QuarryLifeAward project, we’ve already isolated and cultivated several strains of microalgae from soils of the Cep II sand pit. 💡That gave us an idea — to use them as “ink”! 🧫✍️
We filled a large container with nutrient medium and literally “painted” the Quarry Life Award logo using microalgal biomass. In other container we painted the Institute of Botany logo. The result? A living, growing artwork created by microscopic organisms.
This approach is not only a creative way to popularize microbiology and reclamation research, but it also holds potential for an entirely new direction in art. Who knows — we might be witnessing the birth of a new genre: paintings made with living cultures.
