In every successful restoration effort, science must come first. At Wazo Hill Quarry, through our project, we're doing exactly that - by establishing an Ecological Baseline Map that guides every seed, every species, and every step of our restoration strategy.
Our project under the Quarry Life Award 6th Edition - "Assessment of Seed Production Requirements at Wazo Hill Quarry and Seed Bank" - has now progressed into one of its most critical phases: Mapping biodiversity across the entire quarry landscape.
This baseline ecological map is not just a visual tool - it is a scientific framework that allows us to:
i. Identify native and exotic species distribution
ii. Track forest progression stages (from initiation to understory reinitiation)
iii. Locate areas with active native seed production potential
iv. Strategically position our portable seed bank for maximum ecological impact
iv. Align seed collection and dispersal efforts with actual forest dynamics
Why This Matters:
Restoration without data is guesswork. With this baseline, we're empowering both community efforts and corporate responsibility with evidence-based planning - ensuring long-term success beyond the lifespan of the Quarry Life Award.

i. 20+ hectares mapped using stratified quadrants
