From the field to the lab 🧪🌱

After an intense round of fieldwork, our team moved into the lab 🔬
Now it’s time for the next exciting phase — analyzing the soils from different areas of the sand quarry 🏜️

Here’s how we started:
💧 Measuring soil moisture — by drying the samples in a drying oven
🔥 Determining organic and mineral content — by firing the soil in a muffle furnace and weighing it on precision lab scales

Why does this matter?
👉 To see how soil composition differs across areas with different post-mining histories
👉 And to explore how soil properties relate to the microalgal communities we discovered there
