Half Time!
Welcome to the Quarry!
It's hard to imagine that we are five months into the project already - though it has been a productive time.
Having identified a suitable location for our Stone Circle with the Quarry Manager (an old access road alongside a public footpath) we worked with the team to clear the site, level it, select large rocks that the quarry unearth but cannot use, move the rocks into place and lay down gravel ground. The rocks have been cleaned and they look quite amazing. We have our site of contemplation and relaxation!
We have found that already people are responding to the site and each time we arrive something has changed - small cairns have been built, pebbles placed in the holes on the centre stone, some creature digging a burrow along the edges. It is wonderful to see the small interactions with the work.
Next steps on site are to put topsoil around the outside of the stone circle and to seed with appropriate meadow flowers and grasses. Our list of birds and animals visiting is growing and now that spring is well and truly here we are finding a variety of migratory birds, including some quite rare visitors! Community engagement is growing and we have over 100 followers on our Instagram site - though the engagement program could not be launched until we had finished the circle and put appropriate safely barriers in place.
In the next update we will explain the layout of the stones and how they form a celestial calendar!
Thank you,
