Helping landholders understand why regreening is so crucial
In late May, Wildlife Queensland's Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Conservation Network went alone to the Heidelberg Australia Nerang Quarry Open Day, with a full cart of vines to help explain why regreening with birdwing butterfly vine (Aristolochia praevenosa) is so vital for the survival of this species.
Heidelberg Materials Australia’s Nerang Quarry site is just one of the sites our Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Conservation Network is working with for our Quarry Life Award Project. Quarries like this one at Nerang can be fertile sites for Richmond birdwings with careful replanting of much-needed food plants, which this butterfly needs for its larval (caterpillar) phase.
