🔬 Molecular magic in action!

As part of our #QuarryLifeAward project, we’ve collected a huge amount of data on microalgae and focused on their molecular identification. After assembling the dataset, the next step was alignment and phylogenetic tree construction.

💡 One of our strains — Klebsormidium sp., isolated from the CEP II sand pit — revealed very interesting taxonomic position. It belongs to clade E, quite widespread across Eurasia, but is grouped with two strains found in Germany… on a rooftop! 🏠🌱

📦 The strain has already been deposited in the CCALA collection under the number CCALA 1187. Few more potentially new, previously undescribed organisms we have!

✨ Discovering the new, unknown, and unexpected is what makes the #QuarryLifeAward project truly unique!
