Passerine nesting study in quarry habitats
During the month of February, the first technical visit of the project was carried out. Different landscape tiles have been selected within the mining center, areas of heterogeneous atlantic forest, areas repopulated with Pinus radiata and garden areas have been selected, where a total of 50 nest boxes for passerines have been distributed.
All the nest-boxes have the same characteristics, made of wood and with a 32mm entry hole.
For the placement of the nest boxes, different parameters have been taken into account that may be important for their future colonization, such as orientation, placement height, oscillation of the nest box and density of vegetation.
Within the multimedia content, the plans and characteristics of the locations of the 50 nest boxes placed are summarized in image format.
