Photosynthetic activity of the top-soil algae
One of the key goals of our project is to understand how well microalgae “function” - in other words, to measure their photosynthetic activity.
📦 We carefully collected topsoil samples and transferred them in the Petri dishes without disturbing their natural structure.
📊 Next comes the FlowCam analysis. Of course, these communities include other photosynthetic organisms like mosses — but we use different wavelengths to distinguish pigment types and focus specifically on microalgae.
🔍 This helps us better understand who contributes to soil colonization after mining.
Microscopic organisms, big discoveries 💚
