Assessing Adoption of Drones in Quarry Restoration

Ecosystem restoration is the process of halting and reversing degradation, resulting in improved ecosystem services and recovered biodiversity. Ecosystem restoration encompasses a wide continuum of practices depending on local conditions, policies, initiatives and societal choices. As it is widely known that extraction activities in quarries and mines bring negative impacts towards nature and biodiversity, therefore it's crucial to join our efforts in restoring the damaged ecosystem.

Despite of all the extraction activities, we can no longer deny the fact that Heidelberg Materials has been forefront in restoring degraded ecosystems in the quarries, so as to achieve a healthy, stable and diverse ecosystem. Through restoration projects and initiatives like Quarry life award , they've managed to collect several ideas and come up with various approaches that add value to biodiversity

Traditional restoration whereby seedlings are grown in a nursery and then planted by hands is effective, however it's labor intensive and time consuming. To reach the restoration goals, we should think on other strategies and techniques that are precise, cost effective and time friendly so as to accelerate the restoration process

This study has focused on studying how technology, particularly use of Drones can be effective in restoring Wazo Hill Quarry. The drones that will be used are capable of Seeding, Monitoring and Proactive Protection of the planted species. Use of drones in seeding and monitoring the planted seeds will accelerate the restoration process and will maximize the results
