Biodiversity education through birdwatching students of Palimanan 1 State Senior High School and PGRI Palimanan Senior High School in the Conservation area Indocement Palimanan, Cirebon.

Short Description

Biodiversity education through Birdwatching has been widely carried out in several countries, including Indonesia. However, it has not been carried out in the area of the Indocement Cirebon factory complex. Birdwatching is a form of natural tourism activity focusing on enjoying birds in the wild. This activity aims to introduce biodiversity from an early age through birdwatching, especially for high school-age children around the factory.

This project can have a useful and direct impact on Indocement, schools, and local communities. For Indocement , it can be useful, including: 1) helping to complete bird time series data in the year of mass activity (2025/2026); 2) helping to support Indocement in implementing Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) in Indocement's operations, one of which is through biodiversity education by involving schools; 3) assisting Indocement in supporting biodiversity conservation through education by involving schools and local communities; 4) Assisting Indocement in promoting biodiversity values for mines for employees outside of biological/ecological/forestry backgrounds.

For schools, it can be useful, among others: 1) increasing students' knowledge, especially biodiversity through birdwatching; 2) being able to increase networking and establish communication with Indocement. For local communities,  the benefits include: 1) increasing biodiversity knowledge, one of which is through birdwatching in the Indocement conservation area; 2) Increasing income while being a local guide.

In addition to being directly beneficial, this project can have a wider impact, especially in the environment around the Indocement Palimanan factory, Cirebon. The existence of this project is not only individual students, schools, Indocement, and local communities who are directly involved, but all teacher councils and employees at each school participate in determining the students who participate. Parents of students are also involved in preparing their children to participate. Information on biodiversity education projects through birdwatching can reach at least two schools, namely Palimanan 1 State Senior High School and PGRI Palimanan Senior High School, as educational institutions and the people behind them, principals, teachers, employees, and parents of students. When this project information has reached several elements of society, it will indirectly have an impact on the perception of the general public, that Indocement supports/holds activities that aim to preserve biodiversity, and that Indocement has a biodiversity conservation area.
