CUORE: Curare (caring) Osservare (observing) Respirare (breathing) Emozionare (impressing)
The former Santa Giustina quarry will become a nature classroom, where volunteers will employ their skills to arouse the interest of the Community towards nature through emotions and highlight the importance of protecting urban and peri-urban ecosystems. The project aims to raise awareness for the importance of nature and the services provided to the ecosystem by natural and re-naturalised areas. In addition, the project takes into account the ongoing climate emergency and intends to serve as a training ground for active citizenship skills, especially for young people, who, trained and coordinated by experts, will play a leading role by assisting the Community when in contact with nature. In particular, following and emphasizing the environmental aspects linked to seasonal change, at least 5 excursions will be organized, which will include nature-centred workshops aimed at various targets (families, associations, students and people with disabilities), in order to let them perceive the peculiarities of natural environments and the cycle of life by employing all 5 senses. What is more, specific activities will be dedicated to promoting the citizen science aspect of the experience. The different target groups will be challenged with contests (a photographic competition and one about finding a new name for the quarry) and they will also take part in a final event documenting and recapping the project.
