Ecosystem Bridge: Environmental and Biodiversity Awareness for Youth and Community
With this project, we aim to raise awareness about
environmental impacts and biodiversity conservation by
focusing on quarries. Although quarries provide direct
economic benefits, they can have serious impacts on natural
habitats. In this context, as ITU Environmental Engineering
Club, our project aims to encourage university students to
conduct research through field studies, while increasing the
level of knowledge of middle and high school students and
local people on this issue.
In the first phase of the project, university students will
conduct field studies in quarries, collect data on the current
ecosystem, flora and fauna status and develop an
understanding of biodiversity by analysing this information.
Then, interactive educational materials prepared using the
data obtained will be presented to secondary and high school
students and local people.
In this process, our goal is to raise environmental awareness,
especially among younger generations, and to encourage
individual and social responsibility for nature conservation. In
addition, thanks to this project, we aim to create a reflexive
working environment for future environmental engineers to
gain field experience in their education life and on their
professional competences. At the same time, we aim to raise
awareness for a sustainable balance between nature and
economic activities.
