Incursion dans la carrière d'Antoing

This project explores how management strategies can reconcile the presence of habitats of high biological value with the phased exploitation of an "active" quarry. It takes into account the constraints specific to each phase.

Our aim is to demonstrate how actions initiated at a given reference time ("t"), considered as the baseline or "existing" situation, can be sustained over time and adjusted to the changing constraints of the exploitation phases. These actions are designed to accompany the quarry operations until the final rehabilitation phase, when the site is considered "inactive." For example, they include the restoration of sparse and pioneer grasslands, countering the natural trend of open habitats transitioning into wooded areas. The project also aims to make the site visible and serve as a tool for raising awareness among local populations.

This initiative supports both the biodiversity and landscape quality of the site while providing a complementary benefit to the ongoing extractive activity. Our actions focus not only on the way nearby communities perceive the site but also on their direct experience of it. By enhancing biodiversity and the site's scenic value, the project fosters an appreciation of industrial heritage, serving as a mediation tool to address potential future tensions and/or permit applications.
