Investigating the influence of rehabilitation practice and man-made modifications on attracting reptiles and amphibians at wazo hill quarry site.
Research description
Purposely, the study aims on exploring the ecological roles played by the Forest rehabilitation program on Herpatofauna (Reptiles and amphibians). The main reason for undertaking the study is to make the community aware of the significance role played by TPC PLC and Heidelberg group of companies ecological restoration as respecting ecology as one of the pillar of sustainable development.
Focusing on reptiles and amphibians as the indicator species reasonably because. The species are widely distributed in both aquatic and terrestrial environment. The individuals plays significant roles on the ecosystem either direct or indirect due to their ecological niche. Roles perfomed by reptiles and amphibians in the ecosystem can be categorized into four groups whicha are provision, regulation, support and cultural.
ecological roles played by reptiles and amphibians involve seed dispersal, biological/pest controll, nutrient cycle and also source of food for higher trophic levels. So, regarding their roles these species can either directly or indirectly impact the progress of rehabilitation program since their presence can accelerate the rate of rehabilitation process through nutrient cycle, seed dispersal and as a component of community food web.
