Nature Without Borders: Revitalizing Post-Mining Areas at KSM Ruda in Budziska

The project aims to enhance biodiversity in the KSM Ruda mining areas in Budziska by creating diverse habitats for plants and animals. We want to establish a nature oasis that will serve both the local community and wildlife.

Is it possible to create a place where nature and humans live in harmony? Our "Nature Without Borders" project is a real-world initiative that will transform the post-mining areas of KSM Ruda in Budziska into a vibrant space. Nature conservation in the Ruda quarry is a complex issue that requires a very comprehensive approach. Therefore, our project combines: supporting biodiversity, education, and engaging the local community. We want to demonstrate that even the most degraded areas can be restored to life and create a space for the development and survival of diverse plant and animal species.

The project's implementation will enable a comprehensive assessment of the state of nature in various ecosystems and allow us to appreciate the natural richness of anthropogenic areas, where natural succession is constantly developing.

Our goals are: to create diverse habitats (flower meadows, ponds, nesting sites for birds and insects, a compost and fertilizer heap used by animals), to provide nature education for the local community (especially children and youth through lectures, workshops, and the creation of an eco-fairy tale), and to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation through cooperation with local communities.

At the same time, the undertaken activities will be a continuation of our project "Protection of Avifauna and Amphibians by Improving Habitat Conditions in the Ruda Mine Areas" from 2021-2022 and the activities we undertook after its completion.
