Description

Muratbey limestone quarry is located in Çatalca, İstanbul. Annual limestone extraction from the quarry is approximately 1.5 Mtons/year. Mining licensed area is around 195.15 ha and extraction permit area is 120.32 ha. Majority of mining land belongs to our company and the rest is leased. There are 8-12 benches in the quarry. There is a creek close to the quarry which connects to Büyükçekmece lake and farmlands surrounding.

Habitat, flora & fauna description

There is a transition climate between Mediterranean and Black Sea conditions around Marmara region. Therefore, there is a warm climate, and the main flora is maquis around the region. Weeds & shrubs are existing in the run out mine parts of the quarry benches. Invertebrates, reptiles, mammals and birds are the other main types of animal species around the region. Partridges are the most precious birds in this area.
