Step 1 - Survey in “Castenedolo”

VISIT TO THE LOMBARDY’S BIGGEST FLAT LAND WOOD

On the 11th of february we went on visit to the Italcementi’s ex- clay mine, in Castenedolo
(BS). These 20 hectars of land have been reconverted into wood, thanks to the cooperation
between Italcementi and Castenedolo Municipality and through an over 30.000 trees
planting. Main aim of this common project was that of creating a “compensatory
reforestation” and the final result is more than satisfying, as regards both its extension and
the variety of arboreal species, currently living in the area.
During the day, apart from meeting all the other teams which take part to the “Quarray Life
Award”, we also pinpoint the best location to place the experimental concrete beehive, which
will host 20 new bees-colonies. An exceptional chance given to us,t to evaluate the good
and bad sides of this material, concerning both its quality and its outputs.
