Let’s get it started!
Our team is excited to announce the launch of a new research project «Microalgal biodiversity as the indicator of soil reclamation in sand pit post-mining sites» submitted to the Quarry Life Award competition-6th Edition.
We are an experienced group of phycologists, and the core of our team consists of four PhDs, supported by two enthusiastic students from the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. For many years, we have been studying the diversity and ecology of microalgae in a variety of environments, including extreme habitats and post-mining sites.
This new project focuses on studying microalgae in different parts of a sand pit CEP II, where mining activities were stopped at various times. The goal is to determine the timeframe and completeness of natural soil recovery after mining, using microscopic algae as bioindicators.
We’re ready for fieldwork, microscope sessions, data analysis, and exciting discoveries. Stay tuned to learn how tiny algae can tell big stories about nature’s recovery!
