Biodiversity, environment monitoring, material sustainability in the largest plain forest in Lombardy. The project BeeConcrete has several objectives. Apiculture is a vital activity that helps environment protection and favor biodiversity for plants, animals, and microorganisms: the project will introduce hives within Santa Giustina ex-quarry and new bee colony of ~2M bees. These animals have a strong connection with the environment, and they are great indicators of the overall health of the ecosystem in which they live and work. Observing their health conditions and the quality of their product (honey, wax, propolis) we will have a reliable monitoring of their environment and the related air quality. The project sustainability is also augmented by the innovative hives to be deployed. They are designed and produced in concrete, a material fundamentally safe for both bees and the environment; it has also great advantages as a feasible material for beekeeping, thanks to its durability and low maintenance fees.
