Insect houses or hotels, depends on how you call them, are usually handmade structures providing shelter for insects. They are often seen in botanical gardens, but as they are becoming popular, a lot of people make their own houses and put them in their garden. The houses are used as nest sites by various insects, such as solitary bees and wasps, ladybugs, butterflies. They can also be used as a place to hibernate or to hide from rain.
As we're aiming for supporting the biodiversity around the quarry, we've decided to build an insect house near our lookout. We think it already looks quite promising, nevertheless, there is still a lot of work to be done, as we're just halfway through!
