Description:

“S. Giuseppe” is a limestone quarry located within a wooded area of high biodiversity value named Bosco Bazzoni, which makes up part of a special protection area (IT3341002).

The excavation project provides an evolution of the minable area from top to bottom, with descending benches of limited thickness, mined by drilling and blasting.

The rehabilitation plan is performed as soon as the benches are exhausted and together with the excavation of the other benches not yet completed.

Operations carried out for rehabilitation program are:

  • smooth blasting to create final slopes such as natural (slope 30°-35°);
  • covering the final slope with topsoil (normally 25-30 cm);
  • seeding mix grass and planting shrubs or trees till 2 years from the end of works.
Habitat, flora & fauna description:

All around the mining site, there are protected habitats, flora and fauna, identified in the SPA site ITA331002 but inside the quarry their presence is only partially known.

Ongoing nature projects

There aren’t studies in progress but in the past a research measuring the levels of biodiversity within S. Giuseppe quarry has been done.
