Habitat, flora & fauna description:

The Chaouia and Doukkala region was known for its interesting flora and fauna (mainly herpetofauna), containing a good number of macaronesian species, with a fairly high endemism rate.

The site area is rich in remarkable taxa, with 18 endemic taxa potentially likely to be present on the site. These taxa have a certain patrimonial value for Morocco. It should be noticed that only two endemic taxa (Onopordum dissectum subsp. Dissectum & Lotus benoistii) were found as isolated individuals on very rocky terrain far from the site of the quarry itself. A colonization of the environment by common and invasive species, such as Verbascum ciniatum, Solanum sodomeum, Calendula arvensis, Apium noduflorum, etc., results from human activity in the area.

Insects, Reptiles and Mammals represent the bulk of site biodiversity. In the case of insects, four endemic species of beetles (Tenebrionidae) on the Atlantic coast, with a rather important conservation stake (Adesmia Smaroccana, Scaurus kraatzi, Pimelia tristis ssp, Interstriata, Stenosis fulvipennis ssp. Safiana).Existence of 19 reptile taxa of which 8 were observed in the site area (Trogonophis wiegmanni wiegmanni, Eumeces algeriensis algeriensis, Chalcides mionecton mionecton ...).Concerning mammals, three species were observed in the study area (Barberry Squirrel, Hare, Red Fox) with micromammals (Black Rat, Rat Surmulot, Wild Mouse ...).
